The best music always seems instantly familiar. Steve Smithie, a New York City guitarist and composer, is a prime example. His music, full of hummable melodies and cinematic soundscapes, tells stories you already seem to know. Yet, you've never heard anything like it. Alternately evoking the banks of the Mississippi delta and some mysterious dark alley, Smitty's songs are filled with whimsical melodies, melancholic reminisces, and loose-limbed grooves. It is music without artifice, speaking so directly it is easy to overlook its complexity. Smitty's music has been licensed by HBO, Cinemax and Showtime. Most notably, he wrote and recorded promotional music for The Sopranos.
